Last week’s Monroe County Commissioners meeting saw unanimous approval on several key financial and operational items that could have significant impacts across the region. During their regular session held on June 3rd, 2026, the Board of Commissioners finalized over $3.25 million in financial transactions while also advancing grants and executing service contracts.
The agenda was marked by straightforward motions without amendments or public comment. Among the notable decisions were a shift from T-Mobile to Premier Wireless Business Technology Solutions Inc., with no change in cost, for essential mobile equipment at the Office of Emergency Management. The county also entered into an agreement with Norstar Networks to provide 16 hours of assistance with phone services, Ring Central, at no additional expense.
Financial approvals included payments totaling $6,700 to Read & Associates for geologist services related to a new well at the Monroe County Correctional Facility and several allocations from the Hotel Tax Fund. These funds supported shuttle service for Brinker’s Mill event and security services at the Pocono Mountain Volunteer Fireman’s Carnival.
Significant attention was given to grants and agreements designed to combat opioid addiction. The commissioners approved Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) totaling $240,918 with NAMI Keystone Pennsylvania/Carbon-Monroe-Pike PA for mental health educational classes and the Cornerstone Community Initiative for a coordinated reentry initiative.
Other financial commitments included $7,525.67 towards Law Enforcement Training Initiative coordinators to attend RISE training programs and $2,700 to support the Elk Antlers #319 Drug Awareness event on July 11th.
The commissioners also authorized electronically submitted grants aimed at various public safety enhancements and homelessness prevention initiatives, totaling over a quarter of a million dollars.
Lastly, an agreement was signed with KFT Fire Trainer LLC for $32,027 in service and maintenance costs to support ongoing emergency management needs.
